If you ship chilled and frozen lines to the same place, sending two vehicles is a waste. A dual-zone vehicle carries both: a moveable bulkhead splits the load space, and each compartment runs its own temperature. Frozen at −15°C in one zone, chilled at 0°C to +5°C in the other, behind the same rear doors.
How a mixed load is kept honest
Each zone is monitored and recorded separately, against your consignment rather than just the vehicle. That matters when the delivery includes both bands: if anyone queries the frozen half, you produce the frozen zone’s trace, not an average that describes neither compartment. The chilled record stays clean of the frozen zone’s door events and vice versa.
The bulkhead position moves with the work. A load that’s mostly frozen with two chilled pallets gets a small chilled zone, not half the trailer.
How much of the fleet can do this?
All of it. Multi-temperature capability is standard across our fleet rather than a special request, which is why a mixed order (frozen ready meals in one zone, chilled desserts in the other, delivered to the same door) is just a normal booking here. A wholesaler’s weekly order spanning both bands stays one delivery, one arrival slot, one proof of delivery.
When it pays for itself
One consolidated delivery instead of two means one arrival slot at the destination, one proof of delivery to reconcile, and one vehicle’s worth of cost and emissions. Wholesalers use it to run mixed rounds where each stop takes some of each band. Manufacturers use it when a retailer’s order has frozen and chilled lines on the same purchase order.
The same rules as everything else
Multi-temperature work follows the same discipline as our single-band chilled and frozen distribution: continuous monitoring, per-consignment records, electronic proof of delivery, and the evidence to defend a load if it’s ever queried.
